Discovery Fuel
Challenged assumptions fuel discovery.
As we accumulate knowledge and experience, our minds form assumptions. These assumptions help us navigate the world, but they pose a risk of leading us astray when left unchallenged.
It’s essential to step back and ask:
Is this an assumption, or is it based on concrete evidence?
It’s easy to assume we know how users interact with our software. The reality, however, often tells a different story. Only through direct engagement — asking users about their experiences and observing their interactions — can we truly validate or debunk our hypotheses.
How do we identify and challenge our assumptions?
- Write down assumptions as you’re making decisions.
- Look for data or previous experiences that support or contradict it.
- Use surveys, interviews, and usability testing to gather insights from users.
- Test your assumptions with small experiments and observe the outcomes.
- Set aside time to regularly review and question your assumptions.
By identifying and challenging assumptions, we create a world of discovery and innovation.
