Time is the most important and valuable resource in life.
This is the recurring lesson I provide to anyone I give advice about productivity. Time is finite — it's our most finite resource. Productivity and effectiveness is about maximizing the time we have, which means it's about minimizing the time we spend on nonessential tasks.
But this also applies to general life stuff.
We only have one life, and we only get a limited amount of time with the ones we love. I've watched my son be born and — what seems like overnight — turn into a 18-month-old who is walking around the house and wreaking havoc. It's amazing, but also terrifying.
Things are going to end abruptly.
Death is a certainty. It's what makes life beautiful, but also tragic in the sense that we don't know when, and we really don't know how much time we have.
Cherish every second.
I do my best to maximize every second I have with the ones I love. And I work extremely hard to only spend time on what bring me the most value.
I encourage you to do the same.
